Black and white photograph of a young woman, possibly Fern Dean Bryan, posing for a glamor shot that was part of her entry into the 1959 Miss Arkansas State College Pageant. The picture was taken in Fordyce, Arkansas, which is most likely her hometown. An annual scholarship beauty pageant is still held at what is today known as Arkansas State University.
Isn’t she gorgeous?! Sadly, this is one of many unidentified photographs we have. Somewhere out there is a little old lady whose grandchildren would be shocked, hopefully in a good way, to see their grandma rocking her beauty contest photo shoot. There are so many faces of the past and bits of people’s history that remain unseen because we don’t know the names that accompany them. It’s my hope that someone will recognize this lovely lady and gives us her name. Maybe it’ll inspire someone to go write down who is in their photos too. -Meredith McFadden
