Photographic print of Rufus Laine, custodian for Bay schools, riding a horse-drawn plow at his family farm.
Photograph, 4" x 4.875"
Mr. Laine appears in many of my favorite photographs in this collection. Picking just one was very difficult. However, I selected this one because it is also representative of a significant part of our history in the Delta. Agriculture, in all its many forms – from plantations to sharecropping to today’s corporate farms – has been the backbone of the region’s economy for more than a century. This image captures the essence of that beautifully. -Lisa Perry
